Other Questions

  • You've got this. Take it day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute if necessary. This phase won't last forever. If your baby could speak, they would say, "Thank you, I appreciate all you're doing. I love you. Thank you for using Buddle on my bottom."

  • Car seats, strollers, and everything else has advanced — why not the treatment and prevention of diaper rash? We assembled a group of pediatric dermatologists, pediatricians, microbiome experts, and formulation chemists to take a deep dive into the unique needs of baby's maturing skin, the complex diaper microenvironment, the interaction between the gut and skin microbiome, and diaper rash itself. After two years of research and rigorous testing, the Buddle Diaper Rash System was born.

  • If there is no diaper rash present, then you'll use the Prevention Protocol. If there is diaper rash present or it looks like diaper rash is starting to form, use the Treatment Protocol.

  • No. Clean Cheeks Foam Cleanser should only be used for poopy-diaper changes. For wet-only diaper changes, we recommend using your wipe of choice to clean the area. Allow it to dry and then re-apply Rash Rescue (if baby has diaper rash) or Bottom Buddy (if baby does not have diaper rash).

  • No. Never. We are animal lovers and wouldn't think of it.

  • Infant and baby skin is not fully developed until after the first year of life, usually between 12–18 months. Immature skin is more permeable and therefore more fragile and susceptible to irritation and infections. Diaper rash can happen for multiple reasons: skin immaturity, leaving a dirty diaper on too long, changes in diet which trigger changes in microbiota and stool pH, and certain medications. The Buddle Diaper Rash system is specifically designed to help support baby's skin repair response by providing the right nourishment for baby's maturing skin while working to provide a protective barrier from further external irritants.

  • Don't be bashful. Apply the cream like you're frosting a cake — the thicker the layer, the better the protection. (We just don't recommend eating that cake!)

  • We recommend using the Buddle Paddle Pal Diaper Cream Applicator. It's easier to apply and cleaner than hands. Made from BPA-free antimicrobial silicone, it provides a more sanitary and soothing experience for both Mom and baby.

  • Don't be bashful! The thicker the layer, the better the protection. Apply the cream like you're frosting a cake. We recommend using the Paddle Pal Diaper Cream Applicator, especially if an active case of diaper rash is present.

  • If your baby has diaper rash, fully cover the affected area and extend coverage beyond it — you should not be able to see any skin where Rash Rescue is applied. If your baby does not have diaper rash, fully cover the area where skin is likely to come in contact with poop and/or pee — you should not be able to see any skin where Bottom Buddy was applied.

  • Bottom Buddy is formulated to prevent diaper rash from occurring; Rash Rescue is formulated to heal the skin when diaper rash does occur. Bottom Buddy contains 20% zinc oxide, while Rash Rescue contains 40% zinc oxide, making it thicker. Think of Rash Rescue as a deep conditioner compared to your daily conditioner.

  • Absolutely! Buddle Clean Cheeks Foam Cleanser can be used externally on other skin, like hands. Keep out of the eyes.

  • Parents in our clinical study reported seeing improvement in just two days. Even if the rash is responding well to treatment, continue using the treatment protocol for two weeks to ensure it is completely gone.

  • In the clinical trial, people who used the Treatment Protocol for 2 weeks saw no reoccurrence of diaper rash during the 4-week study period. There is no harm in stopping before two weeks, but the chance of reoccurrence may increase.

  • If your baby's condition worsens or the symptoms last more than 7 days or clear up and occur again within a few days, discontinue use of Buddle and contact your healthcare provider, as there may be other factors at play, such as yeast.

  • We take the safety of our little ones extremely seriously. All Buddle products have been through rigorous safety and tolerability testing on all skin types, including sensitive skin. We are parents too — please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Skincare Science

  • The diaper microenvironment refers to the complexity of factors at work inside the diaper environment. Key factors include overhydration of the skin, increased temperature, humidity, hostile irritants (poop and pee), friction, high skin pH, and the intersection of the gut microbiome with the skin microbiome. Managing this hostile and occluded environment is critical to preventing skin breakdown and epidermal barrier disruption which leads to rash and irritation.

  • The microbiome refers to the collection of microorganisms — including bacteria, fungi, and viruses — that reside on the skin's surface. In a healthy microbiome, there is a balanced and diverse community that contributes to overall skin health. When it comes to diaper rash, an imbalance in the skin microbiome can contribute to its development. Prolonged exposure to moisture, friction, and irritants can disrupt the natural balance, leading to overgrowth of harmful microorganisms and making the skin more susceptible to inflammation and infection.

  • There is no scientific evidence supporting a direct connection between certain foods and the incidence of diaper rash. That said, dietary changes can cause the composition and frequency of poop to change, which can lead to diaper rash. Acids found in some foods can also increase incidence. If you're concerned, consult your healthcare professional.

  • There is no scientific evidence supporting a direct connection between the foods Mom eats and the incidence of diaper rash in breastfed babies. That said, it is fairly well established that food a breastfeeding Mom eats can cause baby to have a reaction, which could include diaper rash. If you're concerned, consult your healthcare professional.

  • In general, if your baby's bottom looks irritated and red, it's likely diaper rash. Diaper rash is a general term for inflammatory reactions of the skin in the diaper region. The five most common types are: (1) irritant contact dermatitis, (2) allergic contact dermatitis, (3) yeast (candida), (4) bacterial, and (5) perianal strep. If you have questions about what's going on with your baby's skin, always consult your healthcare professional.

  • An overgrowth of candida can occur in the diaper region and cause a yeast diaper rash. Yeast diaper rashes tend to be worse in the folds around the groin and may have inflamed patches with defined edges and pimple-like bumps. In severe cases, the skin may be cracked or develop sores that ooze or bleed. If you suspect a yeast diaper rash, see your healthcare professional as soon as possible.

  • It depends. Some last 24–48 hours and some can last longer. With the right treatment, your baby's diaper rash should clear up within 7 days. If symptoms last more than 7 days or recur within a few days, discontinue use of Buddle and contact your healthcare provider.

  • If your baby's condition worsens or the symptoms last more than 7 days or clear up and occur again within a few days, discontinue use of Buddle and contact your healthcare provider, as there may be other factors at play, such as yeast.

  • Yes. All Buddle products have been through rigorous safety and tolerability testing on all skin types, including sensitive skin.

  • Yes. The products in the Buddle Diaper Rash System are designed to be gentle and soothing for baby's skin even in the case of open sores.
