Great question!
The first thing to understand is infant and baby skin is not fully developed until after the first year of life, usually between 12-18 months. Immature skin is more permeable. All of this to say that newborn skin is still developing and is therefore more fragile and susceptible to irritation and infections.
There are multiple reasons Diaper rash can happen. Some reasons are skin immaturity, leaving a dirty diaper on too long, changes in diet which trigger changes in microbiota and stool pH, and when baby is taking certain medications all of these can disrupt the skin.
The Buddle Diaper Rash system is specifically designed to help support baby's skin repair response by providing the right nourishment for baby's maturing skin while working to provide a protective barrier from further external irritants, providing the skin the time it needs to repair.

Don't be bashful with the diaper cream. Remember, part of the purpose of Buddle's diaper creams are to protect baby's bottom from external irritants. The other purpose is to nourish, repair, and strengthen the skin barrier. The thicker the layer, the better the protection. Apply the cream like you're frosting a cake. We just don't recommend eating that cake! LOL!
-
We recommend using the Buddle Paddle Pal Diaper Cream Applicator. It's easier to apply and is cleaner than hands. Made from BPA-free antimicrobial silicone, the Paddle Pal Applicator can provide a more sanitary and soothing experience for both Mom and baby! Learn more about Paddle Pal.

If your baby has diaper rash, you always want to fully cover the affected area, making sure you extend coverage beyond the affected area. Once complete, you should not be able to see any skin or diaper rash where Buddle Rash Rescue is applied.
If your baby does not have diaper rash, make sure you fully cover the area where their skin is likely to come in contact with poop and/or pee. Once complete, you should not be able to see any skin where Buddle Bottom Buddy was applied.
-
Bottom Buddy and Rash Rescue have different ingredients and different purposes.
Bottom Buddy is formulated to prevent diaper rash from occurring, and Rash Rescue is formulated to heal the skin when diaper rash does occur.
Bottom Buddy contains 20% zinc oxide, while Rash Rescue contains 40% zinc oxide which makes it thicker.
You can think of Rash Rescue as a deep conditioner compared to your daily conditioner.

Parents in our clinical study reported seeing improvement in just two days. Even if the rash is responding well to treatment, continue using the treat protocol for two weeks to ensure it is completely gone.
-
In the clinical trial, people who used the Treatment Protocol for 2 weeks saw no reoccurrence of diaper rash during the 4-week study period.
In short, there is no harm in stopping the protocol before two weeks. Just know that the chance of reoccurrence may increase.
-
If your baby's condition worsens or the symptoms last more than 7 days or clear up and occur again within a few days, discontinue use of Buddle and contact your healthcare provider to better assess what is going on as there may be other factors at play, such as yeast.

Skincare Science
-
The microbiome refers to the collection of microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses, that reside on the skin's surface. In a healthy microbiome, there is a balanced and diverse community of these microorganisms that contribute to the overall health of the skin.
When it comes to diaper rash, an imbalance or disruption in the skin microbiome can contribute to its development. Certain factors, such as prolonged exposure to moisture, friction, and irritants in diapers, can disrupt the natural balance of the microbiome. This disruption can lead to an overgrowth of harmful microorganisms and a decrease in the beneficial ones, making the skin more susceptible to inflammation and infection.
Maintaining a healthy microbiome involves practices that support the beneficial microorganisms in the skin. By promoting a diverse and balanced microbiome through proper hygiene practices and using products that support its health, we can help reduce the risk of diaper rash and improve its management if it does occur.
-
The diaper microenvironment refers to the complexity of factors at work inside the diaper environment.
To keep it simple, the key factors are overhydration of the skin, increased temperature, humidity, hostile irritants (poop and pee), friction, high skin pH, and the intersection of the gut microbiome with the skin microbiome.
Managing this hostile and occluded environment is critical to preventing skin breakdown and epidermal barrier disruption which leads to rash and irritation.
-
There is no scientific evidence supporting a direct connection between certain foods and the incidence of diaper rash.
That said, it's not uncommon to see the incidence of diaper rash increase when a child transitions from one diet to another or when new food sources are introduced. These dietary changes can cause the composition and frequency of their poop to change which can lead to diaper rash. Furthermore, the acids found in some foods can increase the incidence of diaper rash as well.
If you are concerned that the food your child is eating could be a cause or trigger for diaper rash, please consult your healthcare professional to discuss.
-
There is no scientific evidence supporting a direct connection between the foods Mom eats and the incidence of diaper rash in breastfed babies.
That's not to say there is not some type of association, it's just not published in scientific literature. It is pretty well established that the food a breastfeeding Mom eats can cause baby to have a reaction, which could including diaper rash.
If you are concerned the food you are eating is causing your breastfed baby to have a reaction, please consult your healthcare professional to discuss.
-
In general, if your baby's bottom looks irritated and red, it's likely diaper rash.
Diaper rash is a general term used to describe inflammatory reactions of the skin in the diaper region. There are many different types of diaper rash and different levels of severity. The five most common types of diaper rash are (1) irritant contact dermatitis, (2) allergic contact dermatitis, (3) yeast (candida), (4) bacterial, and (5) perianal strep (streptococcus pyogenes).
There are other skin conditions that may look like diaper rash. So, if you have a question about what's going on with your baby's skin it's always good practice to consult your healthcare professional.
-
Great question! An overgrowth of candida (a type of fungus common to the digestive tract) can occur in the diaper region and cause a yeast diaper rash. Yeast diaper rashes tend to be worse in the folds around the groin and may have inflamed patches with defined edges and pimple-like bumps.
In severe cases, the skin may be cracked or develop sores that ooze or bleed.
If you suspect your baby has a yeast diaper rash, see your healthcare professional as soon as possible as only they can accurately diagnose the condition.
-
Honestly it depends. Some last 24-28 hours and some can last longer. With the right treatment, your baby's diaper rash should clear up within 7 days.
If your baby's condition worsens or the symptoms last more than 7 days or clear up and occurs again within a few days, discontinue use of Buddle and contact your healthcare provider to better assess what is going on as there may be other factors at play, such as yeast.

Car seats, strollers, and everything else has advanced, b. Why not the treatment and prevention of diaper rash?
With our collective experience in prescription and over-the-counter skincare products, we set off on a mission to bring the treatment and prevention of diaper rash to current times, leveraging experts who have the latest and most comprehensive understanding of the condition and the dynamics involved.
We assembled a group of pediatric dermatologists, pediatricians, microbiome experts, and formulation chemists to take a deep dive into the unique needs of baby's maturing skin, the complex diaper microenvironment, the interaction between the gut microbiome and skin microbiome, and diaper rash itself.
After two years of research and rigorous testing, the Buddle Diaper Rash System was born and we couldn't be more excited to bring it to you and your family.
